This playful blog just in from our friends in Cambridge.
~~(Sissy dials Cheryl's phone)
"Hi, Cheryl, it's Sissy. Hey, Girlfriend! What are you doing on July 10? Wanna go somewhere?"
"Where should we go? Let's pick a nearby town that doesn't have too much traffic, too many stoplights or too much congestion. And I sure don’t want to walk around any of those big box stores.
"Whaddaya say that we pick one that's fun and pretty, maybe with some unique shops, historic buildings, nice parks, friendly faces. I'd like to be around the water so there will be some lively seafood businesses, marinas with all kinds of shiny white boats, some picturesque bridges, and maybe even a lighthouse. You know what I mean?”
"I know! Let's go to Cambridge! Cambridge has it all! We can shop, eat, stroll, or just sit and take in the scenery.”
"In fact, on July 10th, there's going to be plein air painting in Cambridge. What's plein air painting, you ask? Well, it's where the artists paint outside and work directly from the actual scenes and lighting. There will be 30 or 40 world-class painters around Cambridge that day-- some will want to paint water scenes with boats, some will choose historic buildings, some will like the houses or little streets of the west end, and the lighthouse replica there is always popular. The painters willl be all around the area.”
"Can we watch them paint? Well, of course we can--they love to have an audience. It'll be fun to see them create those beautiful paintings, often in just a couple of hours. It's a really amazing talent.”
"Oh, and…one more thing. I almost forgot to tell you the best part. They're having a contest that day. We get to vote for our favorite in-town painting and the artist who wins gets a prize. This should really be fun!”
"It starts pretty early so we ought to be there by, say 10 o'clock. Great! I'll pick you up about 9:30 on the morning of July 10th. See ya, Cheryl."
