Workshop: Establishing Light in Painting
Join award-winning artist Daniel Robbins for this special workshop. The focus will be on the process of establishing light and luminosity in painting. Light is something that must be built into a painting using an indirect method: multiple layers of paint to create a complex optical effect. Direct painting - also referred to as alla prima or premier coup painting - does not suffice when light is the focus of the piece. Because of this, the workshop will focus on the process and application of painting in layers using the indirect method. The proper use of the materials for achievability will be discussed in addition to impasto, glaze, and scumble techniques. Acrylic paint or a fast-drying oil medium will be used to insure that the layers of paint are dry enough to add additional layers of paint on the following days.
