Imagine on a summer evening, strolling the grounds of an estate that lays claim to a history in excess of 350 years. There’s an artist at an easel at every turn; laughter and chatter are carried on the breeze. You wander down the driveway shaded by trees reaching gracefully toward one another, holding the secrets of time gone by. You make your way to the expanse of lawn as it meets the water’s edge, soak in the soulful sounds of the live music playing and join your friends for a cocktail under the stars. One by one, the artists make their way toward the exhibit tent, fresh artwork in hand. Slowly and steadily, an exhibit unfolds as easels are carefully positioned, each canvas revealing a captured movement of light and shadow on the pastoral landscape.

Plein Air Easton’s Meet the Artist Party, taking place July 16th, will be hosted at the historic Langdon Farm in Sherwood, MD, the home of Arlene & Ty Mains.  Listed in Maryland’s Historical Trust, this colonial Georgian home originally built around 1760 dates back to an original land grant from 1659. Once known as Bridges Chance, this estate survived bombings by forces during the Revolutionary War and was briefly occupied during the war of 1812. The Mains have invited Plein Air Easton supporters to stroll their estate grounds, watch PAE’s competition artists make blank canvas’ come alive with color and texture, listen to live music floating on the summer breeze, and enjoy cocktails, hors d'ouevres and a gourmet picnic dinner to enjoy on the grounds or to take away.
