Meet the Artists Party
Plein Air Easton's 'Meet the Artists Party' is an experience, an intimate opportunity to view the landscape we call home through the eyes of some of the most accomplished artists of our time. It is also a private invitation to stroll through one of the magnificent estates nestled at the end of a winding, tree-lined drive. This year, our hosts are Mr. and Mrs. Saul of Gross Coate Farm.
A little bit about Gross Coate:
Located at the confluence of Gross Creek, Lloyd Creek and the Wye River, Gross Coate is a Georgian masterpiece, dating from 1760. The property was originally patented to William Gross by Lord Baltimore in 1658, then owned by the Tilghman family for two and a half centuries. Author Christopher Weeks writes of this gracious plantation house: “The house grew and changed in a leisurely fashion with the family fortunes.” The property houses a creamery, smokehouse, laundry, carriage house, stable, and carefully tended gardens. The expansive view of water on three sides remains unobstructed just beyond the umbrella of stately trees that shade the house. The Saul's have added a charming Roman Catholic chapel that blends seamlessly with its surroundings and was consecrated by Cardinal Donald Wuerl of the Archdiocese of Washington in 2016. It is dedicated to Maryland’s Elizabeth Ann Seton, America’s first female saint.
Participants will be invited to stroll the estate grounds, watch PAE’s competition artists make blank canvases come alive with color and texture, listen to live music floating on the summer breeze, and enjoy cocktails, hors d'ouevres and a gourmet picnic dinner to enjoy on the grounds or to take away.
Access to the Meet the Artists Party is an exclusive benefit for those who join the Friends of Plein Air Easton group through charitable giving. Become a friend and secure your participation in this magical evening under a blanket of summer stars.
Insider Tip: Sales at this event are brisk. If you see something you like, even before it is completed, you can purchase it still on the easel. Complete the sales ticket, leave the SOLD portion with the artist and pay for your painting at the on-site cashier.
