Why Do Things Appear the Way They Do?
The Cottage Studio and Gallery will host an exhibit of Robert Barber’s oil paintings during the Plein Air-Easton! (PAE) competition. Rob is competing again this year.
Robert Barber is an award winning oil painter from Pennsylvania. His affinity with painters such as Velazquez, Sargent, Sorolla and others is reflected in his paintings of the things and places that interest him most. He captures the subject matter he has chosen in a manner that is almost unbelievably realistic but also dynamic. Mr. Barber’s approach and techniques in creating his masterpieces will be demonstrated in the exhibit by combining both partially completed paintings and completed works. This unique exhibit demonstrates Robert’s approach to painting.
Robert has a degree in Studio Art from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Fine Arts degree from the Art Center College of Design. He has free lanced as an illustrator and studied with nationally recognized painters Dan McCaw, Craig Nelson, and Ken Auster. Rob is a member of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA), Oil Painters of America, and the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.
Robert won Third Prize at PAE in 2012 and the Grand Prize in 2007. He has won numerous other awards among which are: Best in Show 2007 and 2001 MAPAPA Paint Annapolis Exhibition and in 2006 and 2005 Best in Show and the People’s Choice Awards at the same event. He was juried into the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition.
