I have a long art journey. As a middle and high school student, every year I received scholarships to Herron School of Art (Indianapolis). As an adult, I became a teacher, which turned out to be the best occupation for a military spouse considering all our moves. I began to study art at UNLV until 1979, when we moved to Misawa, Japan. It was there I had the opportunity to study under a Japanese Sumi-e master for 6 years. Upon return to the U.S., I took art courses at Maryland University and the Corcoran, and finally landed at MICA. While I have experience in multiple media (including digital art), about 10 years ago I finally decided to focus on watercolor; I believe because it best connected to my the experiences I had during my six years of study in sum-e while living in Japan. I am the former president of the Annapolis Watercolor Club, a member of MAPAPA (Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association), and last year, I was honored to enter and be selected into my first plein air event, Plein Air Easton. My paintings have been juried into several national and international exhibits (some have been prize-winning for me), but I still enjoy different art festivals and events, where I can meet wonderful people to share in long conversations - where I meet both established and budding artists and just enjoy the experience of being in a relaxed environment. I am a highly driven artist who believes in the importance of art; it connects us all culturally, intellectually and creatively.
