Carol & Alan Sleeper
Royal Oak, MD
Inducted into the Plein Air Easton Hall of Fame in
2024

For 15 years Alan and Carol have been involved with Plein Air Easton and it all began with being a volunteer. Carol saw a notice in the newspaper and Alan was recruited because of his work with the Avalon theatre productions, from the start both were hooked! 2024 is Carol’s 10th year serving as the Volunteer Coordinator and she proudly says, still “loving it”. Last year approximately 333 volunteer slots were filled by approximately 155 individuals. Alan’s career as a boat builder prepared him for the multitude of tasks over the years including designing displays, hanging banners, and installing the competition paintings, “I’m always on standby for any last-minute needs”.
What keeps them coming back “it’s the support we receive from the volunteers, artists, and the Avalon staff. We have cultivated relationships with so many, and it is such a pleasure to see their willingness to participate and to bring in new friends to help - the response is overwhelming. The positive energy from the artists, volunteers, and patrons is enticing”.
“There are so many memorable moments during Plein Air Easton, but our experience hosting artists has been especially significant. We have formed long-term friendships with several artists who have visited us outside of the week. We have also had many artists paint on our property, and it is so exciting to see their interpretation of scenes that we see every day.”
