Academy Art Museum

Core to the Academy Art Museum’s(AAM)  values is being very intentional about wanting to be good partner to other organizations in this community, Plein Air Easton is one of those partners.   AAM is deeply invested in promoting cultural life on the Eastern Shore.  We are a museum, but also an academy.  We want to support the working artists, and we want to support people that are interested in painting.    We teach plein air, offer Saturday paint outs and strive to inform and engage through our education programs.   It made sense for us to become involved- it is a natural extension of what we do.

Plein air brings energy to Easton during what can normally be a sleepy town in the summer months because everyone is on the water. The event brings people back into town and lightens the spirit of Easton, especially during the hottest weeks of the summer.  The Academy Art Museum is proud to be a long-standing part this celebration.

Plein Air Easton has become a marquee event, one of the largest plein air festivals in the country.  We want to support the idea that this is a town that supports and deeply cares about and is committed to the arts.  We love being a part of it.

Friday night Collectors Party is always a highlight. It is very emotional seeing how much it means to the artists.  You can feel the excitement in the air when the winners are announced and see the excitement the artist have for their colleagues who have won. 

The liveliness that is in the community during the week is so exciting; you can walk around town and see artists painting buildings day and night and you can travel the roads and see easels and umbrellas set up in fields and pastures.  While it feels very quaint, it also feels very European.  It’s a great vibe.
