David Grafton
Easton, MD
Inducted into the Plein Air Easton Hall of Fame in
2025

A gifted painter and founder of the Grafton Gallery on Dover Street, David Grafton played a pivotal role in the formation of Plein Air Easton. As one of the original voices in early conversations about creating a plein air event in Easton, Grafton helped shape what would become one of the most prestigious outdoor painting competitions in the world. His gallery became a hub of artistic energy, where painters gathered after long days in the field—sharing stories, wine, and critique. Grafton’s own work was known for its evocative skies and quiet storytelling. Though he only participated as an artist briefly, he was a constant presence—hosting, supporting, mentoring, and celebrating others. His influence helped define Easton’s transformation into an arts town. David Grafton passed away before the pandemic, but his presence remains etched into the spirit of Plein Air Easton and in the stories shared by those who knew him best.
