The Academy Art Museum and the Avalon Foundation are pleased to announce a new collaboration that serves to forward their shared missions to promote the arts and enhance the cultural life of the region.
Artist Tony Zatzick to Give Oil and Watercolor Demonstration in the Avalon Gallery
Buddhist artists in western Afghanistan are credited with creating the first oil paintings sometime between the fifth and tenth centuries, while the roots of watercolor painting are said to extend back to the cave paintings of Paleolithic Europe. Once again, Plein Air Easton welcomes artist Tony Zatzick who will offer fun and informative demonstrations of these two influential art forms in the Avalon Theatre and just added an acrylic demo to the schedule.

Perhaps one of Plein Air Easton’s most remarkable events is its Quick Draw (this year held on Saturday, July 22). In this fast-paced skilled painting competition, any artist with $10 and ambition has 2 hours to turn a blank canvas into a completed painting and is eligible for prizes and potential sales. The event has been known to have as many as 200 artists vying for any patch of shade to produce their best work surrounded by throngs of eager art collectors. The Meet the Artists Paint Out and Dinner is a benefit that is reserved exclusively for Friends of Plein Air Easton. Every year, PAE highlights an exceptional estate for its Meet the Artists event and this year is no exception. This year, Friends of PAE will explore the beautiful grounds of Fox Harbor Farm, the home of Darlene and Jeff Spence. This is an opportunity to support the festival while enjoying access to one of the Eastern Shore's premier private estates for a delightful evening under the stars.

This Friday, March 10th is the application deadline for the 13th Annual Local Color Art Show & Sale, sponsored by The Working Artists Forum. The show takes place in conjunction with Plein Air Easton on Friday, July 21st - Sunday July 23rd at Easton's Tidewater Inn. This is an outstanding opportunity to have thousands of interested collectors view and potentially purchase original artwork. Forty-two working artists from around the Eastern Shore will participate in the Show.
13th Annual Local Color Art Show & Sale
Plans are underway for the 13th Annual Local Color Art Show & Sale, sponsored by The Working Artists Forum. The show dates are Friday, July 21st - Sunday July 23rd at Easton's Tidewater Inn, held in conjunction with The Plein Air Easton Art Festival. The three day event offers collectors an exceptional opportunity to view and purchase beautiful original art created in studio or en plein air by 42 working artists from around the Eastern Shore.

This year’s competition judge is West Fraser. Fraser was born in Savannah, GA in 1955. He is a true “Son of The Low Country”, with deep roots dating back to 1695 in Dorchester SC, to coastal Georgia’s colonial plantation history. He came of age on Hilton Head Island where he developed his love of the coastal environs that still today provides inspiration.
Plein Air Easton is pleased to announce Jill Carver as the 2017 competition juror. “We are so excited to have Jill join us in this capacity,” said Event Manager Marie Nuthall. “Jill was a PAE competitor for several years, and we’re really looking forward to her artistic insight in the selection of competition artists for 2017.”
